Lisha Zhong (b. 1998, London) is primarily drawn to domestic, mnemonic objects; which can be used to examine aspects of ritual, labour and memory. These objects are carefully translated, rather than being ‘consumed’ during acts of making. In its appraisal, a pillowcase belonging to her late grandmother can escape the stagnation of storage, or being lost as collateral. Instead the value of its every thread becomes apparent, as an opportunity for an alternate realisation. Using the modularity of materials and reversibility of process, the possibilities of re-/dis-/assembly are endless and all regarded with equal value. This methodology is aligned with the understanding of Uji 【有時】 wherein the whole of existence-time is contained in every moment.
